These camshafts are designed for performance upgrades in Panhead and Shovelhead engines with stock valve train; stock-style tappets, pushrods and rocker arms. It is important to differentiate these cams from cams for use with the S&S hydraulic valve train upgrade kit, retro-conversion or replacement cylinder head kit for Panheads which use 84-99 style cams. These cams are all high lift with the exception of the 450S and require lift valve springs and clearance checks for installation. 450S Cam:. Bolt-in hydraulic cam for 74" and 80" Shovelhead engines 66-79 and 83-84 (can be used in 81-82 models if cylinder heads are updated to late style valve guides). Can also be used as a low-end torque cam in modified Shovelhead engines up to 88" with compression ratios of up to 8:5.1. Although designed for use with hydraulic tappets, the 450S can also be used with solid lifters; use with solids will result in more valve train noise, slightly higher cylinder pressure and slightly more torque. 1,500-4,500rpm. 514 Cam:. For 84" to 93" strokers with no greater than 9:1 CR. Best gains occur in the mid-range from 2,500 to 5,000rpm where most riding is done. Relatively quiet and easier on the valve train than most other cams with lifts as high. Solid lifters or aftermarket hydraulic tappets are recommended, valve spring spacing and other normal clearancing checks required. 2,500-5,000rpm. 560S Cam:. For 88" to 103" engines between 9:1 to 10:1 CR, excellent power across the range. Not recommended for stock displacement or lower compression engines. Requires high-lift valve springs and normal clearance checks. Solid lifters only. 3,500-6,000rpm.
